Sky+ is standout example of domestic automation

Jonathan Hopkins has spent the last couple of months tinkering with home automation. He wants to be able to control services and devices in his house remotely but is frustrated at the complexity.

The domestic market for home automation kit is still in its infancy and unless you’re working on a new build with a Grand Design style budget is out of reach for most consumers. Retrofitting an existing building is complex and costly.

There are exceptions to the rule. A notable example is Sky. It’s easy to forget that Murdoch’s media giant has had a two year lead on the market for remote control TV. Sky+ is an exception product that allows users to set programmes to record via a mobile phone (no iPhone support yet), web browser, or of course the PVR itself.
