London Design Festival

Good to see there are some bright young things out there thinking about ways to use our favourite little device. Last week, I popped along to Prospect - the Goldsmiths’ post-grad design community’s showcase at this year’s London Design Festival. The work was hugely varied and included communication, furniture, sustainable projects, physical computing, product and exhibition design. And some mobile stuff!

I*seek was all about an activity-centered, mobile-based social network and Ludic London was aimed at providing Korean Tourists with a new way to experience London that exceeds conventional tours or guide books (and uses mobile). I liked the emotional resonance of both of these and with a little rigorous business interrogation they could go far. It’s not surprising both focused on the social aspect of mobile, but I would have liked to see ideas that were more ‘everyday’ but still had the big topics - recycling, politics, money. All ideas submitted will get a We Love Mobile badge …
