Friday Roundup 26th September 2008

Fancy some video fun this Friday? How about checking out Google’s mobile phone interface? Or passing the time with the FIFA 09 ad?

If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, we have some great web related posts this week. Graham Jones urges people to continue blogging, David Meerman Scott  tells us that when your product itself has potential to go viral and create triggers to push it along, and Andrew Allen  talks us through how to measure the effectiveness of your SEO using Google Analytics.

Have a great weekend.

When your product itself has potential to go viral, create triggers to push it along

Friday Roundup 27th June 2008

Afternoon,

Apparently some search engine marketing agencies are pulling in as much as 300K a month at the moment. Andrew Smith tells us where this money is coming from and what PR’s can do to ensure they keep their piece of the marketing pie.

Also in the round-up this week is a post from Philip Sheldrake enlightening us about how developments in Internet protocol will impact Marketing. Click here to see how the two are connected.

Finally, four minutes to spare? Check out the TED video and be inspired.

Enjoy the weekend.

Best regards,

Andrew and the MarCom Professional team

Social networks are really boring

by Graham Jones of Internet Psychology

Women are natural social networkers; indeed the stereotype of "chatty" women (false as it is) suggests that the world of social networking is a natural place for women to go online. And you wouldn't be wrong.

A new analysis of more than 50 million social networking members shows that women love social networking - up to a point. In the under 24 age bracket, women outnumber men in most social networks. More...

Friday Roundup 13th June 2008

Wow, just when you start to be pleased with the website you've created, someone highlights another that blows the wheel of your mouse. Thank you Chris Applegate.

Chris picks out a website called Eco Zoo, created by McCann Erickson Japan, to communicate how to live more energy efficient lives. Beautiful.

And as this seems to be the year text based Web content is most definitely, without doubt, yes indeedy, superseded by multimedia, here's another video for those of you who like to lean back as much as lean forward... David Meerman Scott applauds the latest entertaining corporate vid from Cisco. More...

Friday Roundup 6th June 2008

Ben Ayers provides us with a light hearted fact for the weekend: Mario Lavandeira, the guy behind Perezhilton.com (the infamous Hollywood gossip blog), is making an absolute fortune via advertising. Apparently a single advert on the site goes for $9,000 a week and the most expensive ad package is a grand $45,000!

Mobile Monday’s also provided its usual food for thought this week. Smart mobile browsers and Mobile Web standards were the top two mobile trends - check out Ben Matthews notes for more info.

And finally, Philip Sheldrake’s The B2B Social Web post is worth a read. More...

Friday Roundup 30th May 2008

And the standout advert of the week goes to....

H O N D A

If someone suggested to you that a great way to promote your brand was to have skydivers spell it out as they plummetted to Earth, you might think they were a little mad, although I guess H O N D A is easier than M I T S U B I S H I! But if they then said let's broadcast it live from another country... well that's a standout ad.

Watch the video courtesy of a post by Ben Matthews.

Best regards,

Andrew and the MarCom Professional team.

10 Landing Page Copywriting Tips to Push Readers All the Way to the Checkout

by Matt Ambrose of The Copywriter's Crucible

Friday Roundup 23rd May 2008

Good to see advertising getting an airing in this social media obsessed community. Philip Sheldrake posts about the news this week that Microsoft wants to buy your attention with their new "cashback" approach to search engine marketing.

And back to social media, hats off to Stephen Waddington for achieving a first as far as we've heard... making a hire via his Twitter network. We can only assume that the candidate was permitted to use sentences with more than 140 characters in his interview reponses.

And Brian Solis picks up the recent thread on social Web analytics with his explanation of the new service from Summize.  Well worth checking out. More...

Friday Roundup 16th May 2008

The entertaining intertwines the informative this week.

David Meerman Scott gets a kick out of a press release instructing him to do nothing with the information! Ben Matthews identifies two rather spookily engaging vides "The Day There Was No News"... perhaps of a world without public relations officers feeding the news corps?!  And for those Twitterers amongst you, Andrew Smith highlights the different Twitter personality types.

Hamish Thompson's post makes good reading for any politician or communications officer looking to explain away something or other they'd rather they didn't have to explain away.  And Brian Solis walks you through the evolution of the press release, right up to its latest incarnation. More...

Tech still in the ascendency

by Stephen Waddington of Rainier PR

Despite the credit crunch and claims of a knock on effect on the business economy, there is clearly cash available for smart ideas.

According to market watchers at Ascendant, 2008 has started very well for the tech sector with increase in both the value and volume of private equity investment deals, though more investment groups appear to be pairing up to commit cash in a bid to share risk. More...

Friday Roundup 2nd May 2008

It's not surprising that the early adopters of MarCom Professional are early adopters period. It's not surprising that early adopters post about the trends, the memes, the innovations that will catch the mainstream a few months later, and transform the marcom industry in the longer term.

If you want to share this insight, I invite you to forward this email to anyone you think will be interested in the posts about social media, the buzz about Twitter and the debate surrounding Social Media Releases.

I'm sure MarCom Professional member Graham Jones (aka the Internet Psychologist) would agree that unless we invite you to forward the email so patently the thought might not occur to you, and we'd all be the poorer for not being so straight forward. More...
