The Dixie Chicks Get It. Do You?

I've just finished watching the 2006 Dixie Chicks documentary Shut Up & Sing. If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching. If you're a PR or marketing person, it is definitely worth a look. * Defiant Dixie Chicks take on their critics For those who are not aware of the movie, here is the IMDB summary: "In 2003, the female country band, The Dixie Chicks, are at the top of their game being one of the most successful bands of all time.

Blogs are much more popular than Jonathan Ross

Apparently, Jonathan Ross is a "national treasure" and the BBC have described him as one of the most important "talents" in the business. So just how popular is he? Well, his flagship Friday night programme achieves just over 3m viewers. That's less than Newsnight and around the same as a daytime TV show. So even in TV terms, he's not that popular. But compared with blogs, his audience pales into insignificance. According to ComScore's latest research blogs are read by over 14m people in the UK.

SanDisk to launch new music format

I read an interesting article this morning. SanDisk are looking to promote music content using an initiative called SlotMusic. This service is backed by 4 of the major labels. It is a US offer to start, with 2 major retail outlets (Wal-Mart and Best Buy) selling SD cards with music albums on. It is to be priced at the same amount as digital music purchased from say iTunes $7. This is an interesting move for a number of reasons; This is a whole new format for music purchase in a world where physical music sales are in decline.

Is latest iTunes widget a stroke of Genius?

iTunes 8.0 downloaded to my Mac when I switched it on this weekend. The key innovation is the Genius sidebar that creates playlists by genre from your existing music library billed as a feature to enable you to rediscover your music and a recommendation engine that serves up music that it thinks you’ll like. When you select an album or a song the sidebar shows tracks from the same artist that aren’t in your iTune library and makes recommendation on related music. And of course if anything takes your fancy you can click straight through to the iTunes store and make a purchase.

The Hills - Social TV

MTV in the US have created an interesting initiative around their reality show The Hills… “The Hills Backchannel is a multi-player social game you play while watching The Hills. Respond to what’s happening on the show by creating comments in real-time. Score points when other players click on your comments, and when you predict the most popular comments.” You can watch an overview here I for one think this is a great initiative and a really effective partnership between the TV and the web.
